Hi everyone,

I’m going to college next year with an English literature degree, which means that I will be reading many, many books. I’m interested into getting an e-book reader in order to save on buying novels and books in the book store, having all of them in a light, portable device, and also for my own personal use for pleasure reading. I like how the Kindle has all of the classics for free or if not very cheap, and I hear the Sony E-reader is cheaper but there is not as big of a selection of books and they are more expensive, and the Nook black and white seems a lot like the kindle…I’m really not looking for something with all kinds of crazy Internet access because I have a good, new labtop and I don’t need it. I just want something that would not hurt my eyes, would have more availibility of books that I would need for cheap, and a good product.

I need some opinions, if you have a Kindle, Nook, or E-Reader can you give me some advice? I’d appreciate it, Thank you!

A friend of mine has Kindle and loves it, she gets to carry hundreds of books all at once in her purse.

Haven’t heard about the other two, so can’t say anything really about them.

I don’t use Kindle myself nor know the price, but if you can afford it I’d really recommend the iPad. It’s really comfortable for reading, gives a new definition to the digital library. A lit student like you will enjoy peering through book pages on the iPad for hours. There are also apps that you could easily install for exclusive access to the world’s best magazines and newspapers.

Sure, it does a lot of things your laptop can do like browse the internet, check e-mail, play music, edit and view documents and play games, but the experience is different. For instance, when you’re writing a big paper at home and want to sit at your desk with full concentration, you’ll want to do that on your laptop. But then you might also have days where all you want to do is to sit in the park and read your book, then out of the blue you just get this urge to write notes or even draft one of your assignments because you just got inspired with the most amazing words or ideas. In this situation I don’t think you’ll always want to have your laptop with you, it would be handy if you could just type it on your iPad. Kindle doesn’t have that feature. Sure, you can carry Kindle and a notepad, but if you write something on a notepad you’ll eventually have to type it all in again to hand it in as your assignment. Might as well go digital from the start, and do so in a compact format.
